Copyright – copyright.gov
I used the copyright office because it’s legitimate. Do this once you’re happy with your manuscript. This protects you from someone stealing your work. I did it for my text before I sent it to my editor. Copyright illustrations after they are finished.
Editor and Illustrator
Don’t skimp here. You want professionals. Editor with full-developmental experience for your text, this is what I used. Illustrator for front and back covers (plus any other illustrations.) It’s up to you, but choose wisely.
ISBN and barcodes Bowker – bowker.com
Bowker is reputable, other places may be cheaper. If you are going with Amazon they provide an ISBN number for you – however it’s only good on Amazon. You may need to purchase ISBN and barcodes if you don’t go with Amazon.
Formatter
If you are self-publishing you’ll need it formatted. You can do this or hire it out. I used wordhook.com – he is very honest and does an excellent job.
Website Designer
I went with Startup Starz – startupstarz.com email – [email protected]
Who to publish with
There are many – Amazon, Bookbaby, Instaspark, Barns and Nobel, … to name a few.
Caren Cantrell – 102ndplace.com She’ll do it all
Remember folks it’s your project. This is simply a list, a starting point. If your book is for the family, you may not need all of these. Good Luck!
